A Congleton councillor has praised a local couple for promoting their town and supporting local businesses.

Since January, a husband and wife partnership of Sharon and Stuart Neild have been promoting Congleton traders and businesses with their Shop Congleton Facebook group.

Also, since the start of 2020, the pair have had their own show on Canalside Radio 102.8FM on which they've featured Shop Congleton as well as local interviews and promoting events happening across the town.

They also run the popular Congleton News and Views Facebook group.

Cllr Rob Moreton said: "All the things they were doing before the crisis were of a tremendous benefit to the town, but since the crisis they have been invaluable.

"To keep people informed and entertained with their social media groups and radio show deserves recognition.

"And let's not forget the Eco Icon wildlife friendly Cong Bear character they created for the town.

"They gave their first Cong Bear Eco award to Congleton Hydro not long before the project's fundraising target was reached.

"On top of that Stuart is also working in a play about Elizabeth Wolstenhome Elmy. Between them they are doing their best to support and put Congleton on the map, which can only be good for the town."
