Congleton's new padel club is looking to expand.

GSM Padel has submitted an application Cheshire East Council for the erection of two outdoor padel courts with associated lighting.

Jack Whiston-Rowe, owner of the facility on Holmes Chapel Road, says this will enhance their offering while helping to build a stronger community around the sport.

He said: "The plan is for the courts to provide a low-cost, accessible option for new players, schools and community groups to come along and try the sport.

"It also adds another dynamic to our indoor club offering. After a match, players can head indoors and stay to socialise and enjoy hot or soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and snacks.

"That social side will not be lost on the additional outdoor courts. At GSM, it is an important part of creating a welcoming club atmosphere and building a stronger community around the sport."

They have already gone some way to building a community at the club, hosting their first business networking event in partnership with Stephenson Browne at the end of August.

The club also held a family fun day in support of their charity of the year, Circus Starr.

Now, GSM Padel are looking to take their game to the next level with the construction of two outdoor courts on an area of disused land.

A planning statement submitted by Emery Planning on behalf of GSM Padel reads: "It is demonstrated that there are strong economic and social needs, and the development would be an acceptable form in the open countryside.

"There would be no adverse impact on the character and appearance of the area, the amenity of neighbouring properties, ecology and the highway network.

"The proposal would be a sustainable form of development that would comply with policies set out in the development plan and the 2026 framework."

The full application, reference number 26/3409/FUL, can be viewed on the planning portal on Cheshire East Council's website.
