Help keep St Mary's Church in Astbury lit up every winter
By Tom Avery 17th Dec 2020
Anyone who lives locally knows how amazing Astbury St Mary's Church looks when the flood lights are lit on winter nights.
Unfortunately, to do this it costs £10 per day and the church can not afford to keep it lit all winter.
St Mary's needs a new lighting system so the community can continue to enjoy the illumination in the future.
Dorothy Barnett, who has launched a fundraiser on behalf of the Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of St Mary's Astbury, said: "Please donate to help keep this tradition alive and showcase our spectacular church."
Astbury Church is a beautiful ancient church, close to Congleton. It is a grade one listed building and is thought to have originated in the Saxon era, with the oldest fabric dating back to the Normans.
Its exterior, dominated by the detached tower and lofty spikes, evokes the admiration of the beholder, this is increased when the majesty of the interior is surveyed.
Dorothy continued: "The tree outside of the church is also an integral part of making this beautiful church a sight to admire.
"There have been lots of people admiring the tree and the church lights for many years now and hopefully for many more years to come."
