A big 'spruce up' is in store for Congleton, with a 'town tidy' set to take place this weekend (Saturday 4 May).

Organised by the community group Congleton in Bloom, this event invites all residents to "spruce up the town and foster a cleaner, greener environment". Further similar events are expected to take place later in the year.

Saturday's will run from 10am-12pm, and is open to residents of all ages; no experience is required, and equipment will be provided.

It is described by the organisers as a beautification project, and will include litter picking, planting flowers, and even painting benches. For example, volunteers will receive wildflower seeds for scattering, to add colour, fragrance, and encourage helpful insects.

It will target many different areas of the town - public spaces, parks, steets, and neighbourhoods.

Congleton In Bloom Chair, Cllr David Brown said: "We believe that a clean and well-maintained environment not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of our town but also fosters a sense of pride and belonging among residents. By coming together as a community, we can create a lasting impact and inspire others to take ownership of their surroundings.

"We encourage everyone, young and old, to join us for a morning of camaraderie, it's a great way to forge new friendships, get out in the fresh air and enjoy the greats outdoors."

A town council spokesperson added: "Residents interested in volunteering for this event can simply turn up on the day. All volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, bring water bottles, and be prepared to roll up their sleeves!
