After hosting the men's and ladies doubles events the previous weekend, Sunday (30 August) saw Congleton Lawn Tennis Club host it's annual mixed doubles event for the Burton Shield.

The pairs were drawn into two groups who played round robin events with the two group winners meeting in the final.

The 2018 Champions Helen Dyson and Peter Dallow were comfortable winners of group A with Kim Bennett and Chris Garside runners up

But group B was a much tighter affair with many of the matches going to tie breaks. Larysa Walls and Jason Lockett edging Jill Vaughan and David King by one point after finishing level on games won.

The final was another tight affair with Larysa and Jason racing into an early lead before being pegged back by their opponents. This too went to a tie break with Helen and Peter emerging the winners.

Helen and Peter therefore took the winners shield and the prize vouchers courtesy of club member Yacob Cajee and his business Red Kite Nordic Walking who were thanked for sponsoring the event.
