Police are appealing for witnesses after arsonists started a deliberate fire in the open in Congleton.

Shortly before 7.30pm yesterday (Sunday), firefighters were informed of a fire in the open in Eardley Crescent, Congleton.

One fire engine attended from Macclesfield and the crew used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire involving waste materials.

Firefighters were in attendance for around 20 minutes.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "The fire is believed to have been started deliberately."

Anyone with any information about the fire should call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 809933, or give the details via Cheshire Police's website.
