Congleton Lawn Tennis Club are celebrating the re-opening of their courts post lockdown in more ways than one.

Not only have the club members been pleased to get back on court , but the committee are also thrilled that the decision to reduce the annual membership fee to just £50 has resulted in nearly 60 new members joining up already. The reduced fee covers membership up until April 2021 and new members are still welcome.

The reduced rate was agreed as play has been restricted and the club had also managed to obtain support from both Cheshire East Council and the LTA to support them financially at this difficult time. Thanks go to them for their support.

The decision to use the Clubspark court booking system has also been successful as members can now check on line to see when courts are free and book at a time that suits them best - quite a few players are choosing to play before work as the courts open from 8am each day. The courts are in use throughout the day with members following social distancing and hygiene rules.

The take up for the inaugural Club Summer Doubles league has also been pleasing with established and new pairs entering the competition - as with the winter doubles league there will be prizes for the leading mens ladies and mixed pairs and details of these will be announced very shortly.

The clubs coaching providers Smash Tennis are re-starting their junior coaching programme on 29th June and head coach Craig Leese is also available for individual or small group coaching sessions. Again the take up of adult coaching has been really good and the club is pleased that members are taking this opportunity to brush up on their match skills and on individual strokes

Anyone who wants information about junior or adult coaching or wants to book a lesson should contact Mr Leese on 07795 144154.

For more information about the club you can check out the website at www.congletontennis.co.uk or the club's facebook and twitter pages.

The winners of the best ladies pair and best mixed pair in our 2019-2020 Club Winter Doubles have now received their prizes in socially distanced prize givings.

Jill Bell and Lynn Boyes received their wine tasting vouchers courtesy of sponsors Laithwaites Wine of Alderley Edge and Beth Hitchen and Mike Massey received their meal vouchers courtesy of sponsors Kans Oriental Restaurant of Sandbach.

Many thanks to Laithwaites and Kans for supporting the club.
