The Tree of Light Christmas tree has been planted in the Community Garden in Lawton Street, ready to be dressed with lights and surrounded by stars with written personal messages in the final weeks before Christmas.

The five metre tall specimen tree will be dedicated to the memory of Rotarian Alan Parton, who sadly, passed away last month.

Rtn Parton brought the idea of the Tree of Light to Congleton, last year.

The promotion of the tree is being undertaken by Rotary-Congleton. In making the tree a permanent feature, the club has received generous support from Congleton Town Council and The William Dean Trust.

Stars can be purchased online where a personal message can also be left.

Wow Portarits, on Bridge Street, remain open during the lockdown and sell stars.

So too do the town's funeral parlours, although they may operate restricted access.
