The winners of this year's Guy Fawkes competitions have been announced.

Eadie-May and Hugo Condliffe won the £50 first prize in the Rotary-Congleton Guy Fawkes competition, with their "splendid" Guy, who was sitting on top of his bonfire, surrounded by rockets and ready to go up in flames.

The judges were unanimous in giving their guy the first prize, although president of Rotary-Congleton, Stewart Price, said that the standard of entries had been extremely high and the judges did have a difficult decision in choosing the winner.

As a result of the interest that the competition has created, Mr Price was encouraged to think that the competition could become an annual event.

Hugo and Eadie-May aged four and eight, both attend the Quinta Primary School.

The school also came first in the competition for juniors and infants.

Eadie-May and Hugo built their Guy, using Hugo's football for a head and other costume materials sourced from the Cancer Research charity shop in Congleton.

Family friends Bob and John helped to build the sturdy bonfire base, illuminated with red light for fiery realism.
