A popular micropub is back up and running.

Barley Hops & Grape has officially reopened following a two-week refurbishment.

The High Street bar is now in the hands of Steve, Andrea and Will McConchie, having been acquired by Tatton Brewery earlier this year.

Speaking after the launch event on Friday, June 5, the McConchie family expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome they received and thanked customers for their support.

They said: "We are looking forward to building on the micropub's reputation as a friendly, welcoming venue at the heart of the community."

BarleyHops opened 12 and a half years ago, starting out on Swan Bank before moving to its current location in 2021.

In April, the venue took to Facebook to confirm that it had been taken over by Tatton Brewery.

"Over the past year, we turned down plenty of offers while we waited for the right fit for the town," read the post shared on social media.

"We're really pleased to say that a local brewery group will be taking over 29 High Street from May — and we're excited to see what they bring next!"

Following a soft launch under Tatton Brewery, the venue closed for a refurbishment.

The outside of the building, the main bar and the upstairs function room were all shown some TLC ahead of the relaunch event on Friday, with the bar now known as Barley Hops & Grape.

Opening weekend saw the Mayor of Congleton, councillor Suzy Firkin, pop in to congratulate the new owners and praise the important role independent businesses play in supporting the town centre.

It was a busy start to life for the micropub which attracted large crowds all the weekend, thanks in part to the annual Food & Drink Festival.

Looking ahead, the McConchie family are planning to introduce wine and beer flights and to optimise the large function room, which includes a newly installed screen and projector.
