A Congleton woman has organised a town centre night out for two cancer-related charities, in memory of a loved one.

Claire Jackson, who has lived in our area for six years, will host a fundraising Cake and Cocktails evening at Rumba.

East Cheshire Hospice and Pancreatic Cancer UK will benefit from the summer event at the Swan Bank tiki bar.

Claire is doing the July event in memory of her late dad, who recently passed away.

"My mum and dad decided to move closer to me and relocate to Rode Heath, as they were my only support network myself and two boys moved with them", said Claire.

"Life carried on, then dad mentioned his leg hurt, he went to the doctors and they thought he had a blood clot.

"A week later and other symptoms started to arise such as sickness, two weeks later he was yellow, he rapidly became ill, lost lots of weight and his passion for life.

"Six weeks after the blood clot diagnosis he died, he was only 54.

"Pancreatic Cancer is a cruel disease which masks itself as other diseases until it has a grip and there is no help.

"My dad was loving, caring and used to wind up anyone in his vision. I could tell you lots of tales of how he terrorised his co worker's ,friends and family but that's probably for another time.

"We miss him, of course we do but that isn't the worse part it's the days when you hide the rubber egg he brought his grandsons in the egg box, forget it and then boil it and wonder why it's not cracked. My boys idolised him, I think it was down to the fact they could have as many biscuits as they wanted when he was around!

"So, what am I doing? We are doing a cake and cocktail afternoon, Rumba has kindly donated the venue, and local band the Acoustics are playing a set for free.

"We have amazing raffle prizes and most importantly local bakers who have donated the cake.

"We did this three years ago, and raised £2500.

"Pancreatic Cancer is so close to developing a urine sample and if it saves one person then I'll be happy. The proceeds are being spilt between Pancreatic cancer and East Cheshire Hospice they are just amazing!

"We have a stall at the Jubilee Party in the Congleton Park, where you can buy raffle and event tickets and also try your hand at sweet pong.

"Thank you to everyone in Congleton for their support."

Tickets for the evening cost just £11, for which you can buy here.

Pancreatic cancer has one of the lowest survival rates. According to Cancer Research UK, one in four survive their cancer for 1 year or more after they are diagnosed. And just 5 out of every 100 survive their cancer for five years or more.

The four-hour event will take place from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday July 3 2022.
