The charming, narrow sloped slabs of Congleton's Little Street are full of character, and a new craft beer venue will join it later this year.

The Little Street Cellar, is the first physical premises of Congleton brewers The Roving Beer Company.

Matt Jones and Danielle Finneron are co-owners of The Little Street Cellar, which will serve a selection of craft beers brewed in and around Congleton.

"We are a craft beer bar, but we focus on artisanal produce, so things that are made by hand," said Matt.

"We are going to get gin made by hand too.

"I brew a lot of the beer myself and we will be selling a large majority of that through the bar and then obviously using a lot of local producers that I have worked with, people like Wincle, Beartown and RedWillow. They are kind of the most local that fit the criteria.

The curation of local and quality produce is an important element for the couple.

"Supermarkets now have such a large selection of craft beer now, it is kind of taking away from the local producers a bit, which is a bit sad," said Matt.

"Our business philosophy is working with local producers and businesses and I'm really glad this is our community because Congleton is really special.

"I've lived in Congleton for around 25 years now. And I really enjoy the community spirit that people have."

The bar will be opening this summer and is expected to be open five days a week.

"We are planning to be open Wednesday to Sunday, 5pm-11pm midweek and then at Friday and Saturday it will be 12pm-1am," said Danielle.

"Sunday it will be 12pm-8pm."

A unique aspect to this bar and indeed venues in Congleton, is the option to have a mini keg of beer all to yourself, or as many people as you are willing to share it with.

"So basically, you can buy a mini keg for yourself at the bar, we cannot give people free range of a full-size keg," explained Matt.

"So, we fill a mini keg at the bar, which will be eight pints worth, and we will connect it to the table. So, the customer can basically pour it themselves."

The interior is also one of a kind, built around the circular dome of the cellar, which is believed to have once been used as storage for Congleton's historic markets centuries ago.

As you enter, they'll be smaller seats opposite the bar for one or two people, and main drinking hall has communal tables, with a bierkeller-style seating arrangement where you can sit and chat with others.

The couple are delighted to expand their business into their first bar, and will open this summer.

It is an overnight success story for the pair, as their microbrewery The Roving Beer Company was only founded last year, but the two always saw themselves having their own bar.
