Busy start to life for Congleton's new Town Mayor
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 17th Jun 2026
Congleton's Town Mayor has enjoyed a busy start to her new role.
Councillor Suzy Firkin is just a few weeks into her mayoral year and it's been non-stop so far, with a diary full of community events, meetings and civic engagements.
Accompanied by her Mayor's Cadet, Faith Wrench of 230 (Congleton) Squadron Air Cadets, the mayor has already visited care homes, taken part in town tidy activities, attended theatre performances and represented Congleton at numerous community events.
The mayor has also undertaken her formal civic duties, recently chairing her first meeting of the full council and committee meetings as part of her role as First Citizen of the Town.
Councillor Firkin said: "Being Mayor is a real privilege, and I've thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many people who give their time, energy and passion to making Congleton such a wonderful place to live.
"Every event has shown me the strength of our community spirit, and I am grateful for the warm welcome I have received wherever I have gone."

Looking ahead, the mayor is preparing for a packed summer programme, including fetes, festivals, awards evenings, concerts and civic functions.
Highlights include the Congleton Lions Duck Race, Town Sports, Congleton Pride and a range of events showcasing the town's vibrant community life.
The Mayor's Civic Service and Parade takes place on Sunday, September 13, with local groups and organisations invited to take part.
The parade will leave Antrobus Street Car Park at 1.30pm ahead of a 2pm service at Congleton Town Hall.
