Congleton has a new mayor.

Councillor Suzy Firkin was officially installed as the new Mayor of Congleton during a well-attended Mayor Making Ceremony held on Thursday, May 21, at the Town Hall.

In her first official address as mayor, councillor Firkin spoke about her enthusiasm for serving the community over the coming year.

Councillor Firkin said: "It is a true honour to be appointed Mayor of Congleton, and I am incredibly grateful for the support and trust placed in me.

"I look forward to working with our community, supporting local initiatives, and representing Congleton with pride throughout the year ahead.

"I'm also delighted to be fundraising for Friends for Leisure, Lower Moss Wood and No Tier Snooker - three fantastic organisations that make a real difference to people's lives, champion inclusion, and protect local wildlife."

During the ceremony, councillor Robert Douglas was appointed as Deputy Mayor, with Faith Wrench from the 230 (Congleton) Squadron Air Cadets introduced as the new Mayor's Cadet.

As the Mayor's Cadet, Faith will accompany the mayor at civic engagements and community events throughout the year, acting as a young ambassador for Congleton and helping to represent the voices and achievements of local young people.

The event also recognised the outgoing mayor, councillor Robert Brittain, and his civic team for their dedication and service during the past year.

Local groups and organisations are invited to participate in the Mayor's Civic Service and Parade on Sunday, September 13.

The parade will leave Antrobus Street Car Park at 1.30pm ahead of a 2pm service at Congleton Town Hall.

Organisations and groups planning events that support the local community, celebrate special occasions, or promote local businesses and initiatives are encouraged to invite the mayor to attend.
