Congleton Lawn Tennis Club staged two summer tournaments on Wednesday July 27.

In the morning the clubs U3A tennis group staged their summer tournament which was kindly sponsored by Wild and Wild Cafe

The winners were Reza Sedarati and Rita Laughton who received vouchers for use at Wild and Wild (the healthy eatery on Bridge Street).

In the evening there was the staging of the Summer Fun Tournament - this was the second of the clubs three events being sponsored this year by local IT business The Tech Division owned by Ben Wilson

Ben said "We are proud to partner with Congleton Lawn Tennis Club because we feel that local sports are an integral part of the community and we are happy to support the work that they do"

Ben kindly provided vouchers for the two winners to spend at Capital Walk, the new food and drink establishment in the town centre.

32 members played in the event which was a timed points tournament and it was great to see a number of tournament newbies entering one of the clubs events for the first time , together with a number of recent new members joining in and also the youngest entrant , junior member Jack White

The round robin section was closely fought with the qualification for the knockout stages being very tight

In the semi finals Steve Nicholson and Lydia Bass defeated Nick Wilkins and Eileen Grigg , and Russell Finch and Amanda Richardson beat Kim Bennett and Anne Moore

Steve and Lydia were victorious in the final

Club secretary Lindsay Newton presented the winners with their prize vouchers

She thanked the sponsors and all those who took part helping raise around £100 for club funds

There was a great buzz around the club and many of the players stayed behind in the bar to socialise afterwards which contributed to an excellent evening all round

The West Street sporting venue was established in 1890, and is one of the oldest tennis clubs in England.
