Congleton Tennis Club Men's Singles 2022 sees reigning champion retain crown

Congleton Lawn Tennis Club staged the first of their annual internal club championships on Sunday afternoon. 

Twelve men took to the court in the mens singles championships including the 2021 winner Simon Darmon and the 2021 runner up Mark Smith.

The afternoon included a main draw and also a plate event to ensure that all of the competitors were in with a chance of winning a prize.

The events were backed by three of the clubs partners - Crewe's Sunshine Street Food Company, plus Church Lawton businesses DMS Autotech and Popettes and Bakes.

August 21 Plate runner up Sam Maxwell receives his prize from club chair Rob Mcninch.

In the main draw final Simon Darmon, beat Luke Coltman In a competitive match to retain the title and take home the vouchers to be used at the Sunshine Street Food Company.

The runner-up took home an Amazon voucher also courtesy of Martin Mitchell from the main sponsors.

The plate final saw Steve Nicholson defeat Sam Maxwell in a third set championship tie break.

Steve received a voucher to use at Popettes and Bakes provided by DMS Autotech who are based over in Church Lawton and the runner up Sam received a fantastic cake made by Amy Findlow-Jervis herself the owner of Popettes and Bakes.

Chair Rob McNinch thanked all of the sponsors for their support to the club and the players who took part for ensuring that the event was played in a good spirit.

He also thanked Eileen Grigg for taking charge of the scoring on the day and for taking the event photos.

The Men's and Ladies' club doubles championships are the next events taking place on Saturday September 10 and entries are now being taken via the website. - these events are bring kindly sponsored by Ray White Builders, Rainbow Cheesecakes, and the Club's West Street neighbours Johns Barbers.

"It is great that so many local businesses are again backing the club and the club is grateful to them for their support," said the Club.

The club is again entering four teams in the South and Mid Cheshire Winter Leagues for 22/23. 

Mike Massey will again be captaining the A team but the B C and D teams all have new captains in Sam Maxwell , Steve Nicholson and James Porter respectively - thanks to all of the captains for agreeing to carry out this important role.
