A Congleton organisation is on a mission to prove tennis is not just a summer sport.

Many teams from Congleton take to the court in the winter months too, competitively and for fun.

The club plays in both the South and Mid Cheshire Winter League (it's traditional home) but also this year in the East Cheshire Winter League.

In the South and Mid Cheshire League there are two competitions - winter prior to christmas and spring after christmas plus the knockout cups

In the winter league element Congleton A defeated Nantwich A on Sunday 21st to secure the first division title, securing another piece of silverware for our town.

The B team beat Cuddington C 8-0 but narrowly missed out on securing promotion from division two on set difference

The C and D teams finish their winter programme next weekend before the first round of the cups.

In the East Cheshire winter league Congleton firsts have played seven matches already winning six and drawing one to head up division six.

Their latest success was an 8-0 win at Fallowfield Darley in South Manchester

The second team have only played three matches to date, but boast a 100% record in division eight with wins over Woodside, High Legh and Brooklands.

Their next match is against Claremont another of the early pacesetters in their division.

This takes place on Sunday November 28 at 2pm, and t Congleton Spectators are welcome.

The following week they have another home match against Bramhall Lane (Monday 6th at 6.30pm).

While the most important tennis matches across the globe take place in the summer, tennis clubs have more space, which means more gamete for participants in the winter time.

The club's 24-hour charity 'tennisa-thon' has also been confirmed to return in 2022.

You can make enquiries about the club and contact them via this webpage.

They are also on Facebook.
