December's extreme weather has put a halt to a Congleton sports tournament, but fun was still had by the competitors.

The Congleton Lawn Tennis Club Festive Tournament started with enthusiasm, proving that tennis is not just a summer sport.

But after four rounds the weather had deteriorated so much, that the players were soaking and cold so all agreed to head into the clubhouse for refreshments.

The Congleton club members enjoyed warm mulled wine, mince pies and sausage rolls.

The winners, after the four rounds, were Ian Graham, (men's runner up was Mike Massey) and Maureen Taylor and Amanda Richardson.

The winning ladies tossed a coin and Maureen won, with the weather bringing play to a premature end.

The prizes were vouchers for Gawsworth pub The Harrington Arms.

The pub five miles from Congleton were the sponsor of the tournament.

The prizes for the best Christmas outfits went to Mr and Mrs Claus, aka Steve Nettlemills and Molly Chantramongkol.

Despite the abrupt end to play, festive fun was still had by all.

The mulled wine seemed to cheer everyone up and all went home with rosy cheeks.
