An Astbury Mere Care Home resident, who has lived at the home for over a decade, celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this month.

William Craig, who turned 100 on 2nd February, moved to Cheshire from Ballymena in Northern Ireland to live with his daughter, prior to moving into Astbury Mere in June 2010.

A spokesperson for Astbury Mere Care Home, said: "William is known for being a loving family man who spent his whole working life working for his family business, which sold groceries locally and exported eggs.

"He has a strong Christian faith and was very involved in his local church and community and always enjoyed singing a hymn or two.

"Everyone here at Astbury Mere took the time to wish William a very happy birthday whilst cards and gifts and a very special card from Her Majesty arrived too.

"We all raised our glasses to William to wish him a very happy 100th birthday."
