East Cheshire Hospice Starlight Walk

Start your weekend off early as the East Cheshire Hospice Starlight Walk returns to Capesthorne Hall on Thursday 18 April 2024.

The walk is an opportunity for you, your family and friends to come together and walk a choice of a 2.5km loop, 2 loops for 5k or 4 loops for 10k through the beautiful grounds in memory of a loved one. The walk takes place at dusk and there will beautiful lighting, lanterns, fire pits, points of reflection and other features to enjoy along the way.

Walkers are encouraged to raise funds for East Cheshire Hospice to help fund the care of patients both now and in the future. The event will include live entertainment, food and drink stalls including alcohol, and each participant will receive a wooden medal. The whole family is welcome to this moving and uplifting evening of remembrance.

Bluebell Walk

Bluebell Walks kick off at Rode Hall this weekend, and will take place on April 20, 21 & 24, 1, 4 & 6 May from 10 am – 4pm.

 Experience one of the finest Bluebell Walks in the North West at Rode Hall & Gardens in Cheshire. A magical stroll for all the family, it is one of the finest times to visit Rode's Grade II listed park and gardens, designed by Humphry Repton, and soak up the incredible colours of bluebells and spring flowers at their best. Walk through the shimmering bluebell carpets covering the ground of the Old Wood, experience the stunning wildflowers in the Wild Garden and the blaze of colours from rare early Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Chilean Fire Bushes. Enjoy the tranquil views over Rode Pool and unrivalled vistas of the beautiful Cheshire and Staffordshire Countryside.

Rode's bluebells are predominantly the endangered and protected native ancient variety which flower on one side of the stalk, are strongly perfumed and can also appear as a white or pinkish flower. 

Highlights of a visit also include the two acre Walled Garden, resplendent in spring blossom from the many varieties of pear, apple and plum trees and with an abundance of vegetable seedlings.

Introduction to Spinning Yarn

During a 3 hour workshop on 21 April, attendees will enjoy the chance to learn the basics of spinning yarn on a drop spindle and take home your very own skein of hand spun yarn!

Katherine from Yarny Goodness will provide all the materials you need to give this ancient craft a try. You'll learn:

  • the basics of turning fibre into yarn
  • how to spin using a drop spindle
  • how to ply and finish your yarn

Participants will be limited to 6 to ensure individual attention. Places are £35.
