New figures show that the value of Cheshire East's visitor economy has grown by more than £100 million in the last year.

The latest economic impact data shows that the value of the sector rose 11.6% to £1.12bn in 2024 and that Cheshire East welcomed a million more visitors in 2024 than in 2023.

The figures for Cheshire East are part of a wider even more positive story that shows that the value of the visitor economy has exceeded £4.32bn across Cheshire and Warrington – the first time this figure has been passed since prior to the pandemic.

Councillor Mick Warren, chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, said: "These latest figures show continued confidence in Cheshire East as a place to visit, explore and enjoy.

"With English Tourism Week starting on Friday (March 13), the message is 'local stories, national growth'.

"We also have Cheshire Day coming up at the end of the month, so now is the perfect time to visit a tourism or hospitality business near you."

Cheshire East attracts visitors from across the UK and further afield thanks to its combination of culture, nature and history.

Highlights include Jodrell Bank Observatory, the Gritstone Trail and Devafest at Cholmondeley Castle, this year headlined by James Morrison, Ronan Keating and Jessie J.

Meanwhile, Tatton Park has enjoyed a record increase in visitor numbers, with family ticket sales up by more than 90%.

It's hoped that visitor numbers will continue to grow even further this year with a new landmark exhibition, 'Beyond the View: Canaletto at Tatton Park' exploring the fascinating link between world-renowned artist Canaletto and Samuel Egerton, Tatton Park's 18th century owner.

Councillor Warren added: "Our borough benefits from an exceptional mix of heritage, culture, green spaces and high‑quality attractions, and it's encouraging to see that reflected in the growth of the visitor economy.

"We will continue working closely with partners and local businesses to support the sector, maintain this positive momentum and ensure that tourism remains a key contributor to our communities and local economy."
