Seventy-one vehicles were caught speeding on a road in Congleton earlier today (Thursday).

Congleton West Police officers, armed with a hand-held speed gun, were on Manchester Road (30 mph speed limit) monitoring traffic after concerns from residents.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "PCSO Hooper has been out with the enforceable speed gun along Manchester Road from 10:25am to 12pm. There were 71 activations during these 95 minutes with the highest being 48mph!

"Data sent to Central Ticket Office for processing."

Nub News reported earlier this week that there were 25 activations along Manchester Road on Saturday when PCSO Hooper and PC Bell had the enforceable speed gun between 12:40pm to 1:40pm.

Congleton Police Officers are halfway through a six week Road Safety operation #OpAssembles.

Speed checks will be commenced daily in hotspots all around Congleton and the surrounding areas. This is in response to concerns residents have about speeding.
