Congleton Park is looking to install a brand-new wheelchair accessible roundabout so that the park is inclusive for all, but they need your help.

Congleton Park is the main location for local children to play in, but currently has no accessibility for those in wheelchairs, which the Congleton partnership are looking to change.

"Every playground should have play equipment for all children, play is beneficial for children of all ages and if a child has a disability, outdoor play can be so important.

"If a child has a disability their options can be limited, inclusive play equipment increases confidence, helps to improve social skills, can improve physical and mental health." A representative from the Congleton Partnership stated.

With flat and wide footpaths, along with disabled parking nearby, Congleton Park is already wheelchair friendly, but this fundraiser would be the next step.

Congleton Partnership have set up a fundraising page on Spacehive as they do need your help for this project to get started.

The partnership is looking to raise just under £20,000 in order to get this new roundabout project underway, but what will the design have to offer…

The plan

The roundabout will be able to accommodate a child in a wheelchair and their carer and will incorporate enough space to hold a range of different wheelchairs.

The roundabout also includes a scooter attached to the side so that a child or carer can easily push the roundabout with ease and a 'roll on, roll off' design so that users can get on and off the equipment facing forwards.

23 people have backed the project so far, raising £1,945. The campaign runs until early July.

To help make this dream a reality head over to Spacehive and donate what you can to achieve the target.

If successful, the campaign would be easily implemented. Congleton residents can head to South Park in Macclesfield, where an accessible play area was recently installed in April, and similar contractors may be used to bring the dream into reality.
