Congleton's elderly residents seeking companionship in these lonely times are urged to contact Age UK following expansion of its successful telephone befriending service.

The Cheshire East charity, aptly named Keep in Touch has recruited additional trained volunteers to offer weekly calls to older people needing extra support during these difficult times.

Mike Smith, project co-ordinator for the Congleton Partnership said: "The service has been phenomenal, I would recommend older members of our community who feel they would benefit from receiving a friendly call to contact the team straight away.

"Those who have already signed up have spoken enthusiastically about the positive impact it has had on their lives over the last year."

To access the service, people should contact Age UK on 01625 612958 or go online to find out more.
