Lifeline for Ukrainian soldier who lost two limbs to land mine
A Ukrainian soldier who lost two limbs in combat has received a lifeline from Cheshire.
Macclesfield-based charity One Project Ukraine has sent an electric wheelchair over to Serhiy Bedarev.
The 33-year-old construction worker from Kharkiv had to undergo a double amputation after stepping on a land mine.
Jeanette Rice, who runs One Project Ukraine with her husband Craig, said: "Serhiy doesn't give up, he intends to return to his profession as a builder and help restore his home."
Serhiy volunteered to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on April 5, 2022.
He started with the Air Defence Forces before moving into the 127th Territorial Defense Brigade in Kharkiv.
On September 9, 2024, during an assault on enemy positions, Serhiy stepped on a mine and was seriously injured.
As a result of his injuries, Serhiy had to have two limbs amputated.
One Project Ukraine send out regular packages of humanitarian aid.
Include in their latest shipment is an electric wheelchair, donated by Tracy Pointon from Congleton.
Jeanette added: "A heartfelt thank you to Tracy and her family for their incredible generosity in donating an electric wheelchair.
"This donation will make a profound difference in his life.
"Your kindness and support are truly appreciated."
