Congleton's new Central Co-op opens with in-store bakery, pet pit-stop and coffee shop
The town's newest supermarket is open for business.
Central Co-op has officially opened its first store in Cheshire, on Manchester Road in Congleton.
An opening ceremony was held on Friday, January 24, with local celebrity Neil Baldwin and students from Havannah Primary School tasked with cutting the ribbon.
They were joined by Central Co-op's President, Elaine Dean, and CEO, Debbie Robinson, who expressed their excitement about this new chapter for the society.
Store manager Janine Cartlidge-Dean said: "We're thrilled to be opening our first store in Cheshire and to join the vibrant community of Congleton.
"This store is more than a place to shop – it's a hub where people can come together, and we're committed to making a positive difference here."
Central Co-op is one of the largest independent retail co-operative societies in the UK, with 460 sites across the country.
Located on the site of a former data centre, the new Manchester Road store has undergone a complete transformation.
The extensive remodel includes a new roof, internal dividing walls, a striking overclad exterior, and a resurfaced car park featuring 16 parking spaces, including two disabled bays and six electric vehicle charging points, which will be installed in the coming weeks.
The store features a number of features designed to improve the shopping experience including an in-store bakery, customer toilets, a water refill station, and a food-to-go area with hot food and drinks machines.

If that wasn't enough, a coffee shop will soon be opening at the store.
The store has also brought 16 new jobs to Congleton, contributing to the local economy and supporting the town's growing population, bolstered by significant housing developments in the area.
