A Gawsworth farm wants Congleton to buy their fir trees local this Christmas.

Daniel Thornicroft (35), is the owner of of Libby's Patch in Gawsworth.

You may been to the Shallow Lane farm for their sunflower or pumpkin events over the past two years.

It is just a 4.4 mile drive from Congleton town centre.

This year marks the first-ever time the small local business has planted Christmas trees on their land.

"Our loose Christmas trees are premium non-drop Northern Fir. They range from four foot to eight foot. And you can have as many trees as you want," said Daniel.

"For the pre-potted trees we have got two foot to five foot. It starts at £35 for the four foot, and for every foot they go up ten pounds.

"Like any of the events we do, I love getting kids and their families outside and onto the farm. Because like my kids, they spend too much time inside.

"So it is great for them to see how stuff grows, where it comes from and have a walk around."

Libby's Patch is a proper family day out. You can pick your own tree, find out about how they are grown, as well as taste some festive treats.

They've got a food cafe with hot cider, mulled wine, festive hot chocolate and various wares on sale.

Their Gawsworth-grown trees are selling so fast that they are having to order some trees from their sister farm business up in Scotland to meet demand.

"Our tree sales have been 50% from Congleton and 50% from Macclesfield," Dan proudly proclaimed.

"But with the pumpkins we had people coming from all over the north west. Thank you to everyone for our support."

The farm means everything to Dan. He even proposed to his fiancé Bethan on their sunflower patch, another event held earlier in the summer. And they'll wed in July.

The couple live near to the Xmas firs with their three kids Cyrus, Heathcliffe and Rupert.

"The main driver of doing a winter Christmas tree event was all the people that have come to our previous events wanting one," added Dan.

"And now they are wanting us to do a spring event now, so we are going to give the people what they want. It has been a very busy year.

"Our kids love it that people come down to our farm. They are quite popular at school [because of it] and they love showing their friends down when they are down here."

"[I believe] it is important to buy anything locally, not just your Christmas tree, because you're helping your friends, neighbours and the local economy.

"And when I sell a Christmas tree I do a little bit of a dance inside.

"But if you buy a Christmas tree off Tesco they're not really going to do a little dance. We really do appreciate everyone's support."

"And for every tree that is cut, two is replanted up in Scotland with our partner business, which is great for the environment."

Libby's Farm is open Monday to Friday 3pm-6pm, and weekends 11am-6pm.

You can pick a tree, and they will deliver it on the same day for you, anywhere in Congleton.

"We also make an annual donation to East Cheshire Hospice," Dan also said."

"This is because Libby, who the farm is named after, was my late mum. She died of cancer 12 years ago, so we named it after her and tried to give a little bit back."
