Plans have been submitted to redevelop the former Cross Street Garage in Congleton to create 14 independent living apartments for vulnerable adults.
The scheme proposed, for a registered housing provider, aims to give vulnerable adults the opportunity to live as independently as possible in their own homes and enjoy a high quality of life, with the chance to grow and thrive.
The site, which includes the Cross Street Garage – formerly known as Electric Picture Theatre – together with the area to the south behind the building, extends along Cross Street occupying most of the southern side of the street .
It already has planning permission for 11 apartments and external alterations, including an additional floor.
This latest application is to include an additional three apartments and vary the details of the rear elevation to the scheme previously granted permission.
A design and access statement submitted with the planning application states: "The proposal is to provide 14 supported living units over three floors. It generally follows the profile of the approved application, particularly on the Cross Street side.
"Each unit is self-contained and there is an office on site to provide support to the residents.
"There are five level access units on the ground floor each with their own entrance. The entrance to the upper floors is under the new access through to the courtyard. Each of the ground floor units has a small patio area and there is a garden shared by all to the west of the paved courtyard."
The developer says it is not intended to substantially alter the scale of the building.
As well as the apartments and office, the scheme also includes secure parking for 15 cycles, together with storage for mobility scooters.
The application, number 22/2916C, can be viewed on the planning portal on the Cheshire East Council website.
It is due to be determined by a planning officer in October under delegated authority and the last date for submitting comments is September 15.
The Electric Theatre was a cinema between 1910 and 1914, later becoming a garage and art gallery with offices.
