Congleton's MP backs Crewe's bid to host Great British Railways HQ

By Alex Greensmith 9th Apr 2022

Congleton MP Fiona Bruce, has offered her support to the campaign for Crewe to host the headquarters of Great British Railways.

Speaking in the House of Commons Fiona, the Conservative, who has represented our town for 12 years, said she believes Crewe is the ideal location.

And she says the move would then help pave the way for the reopening of Middlewich railway station and ease traffic congestion on the M6.

"I strongly support my Honourable Friend's (Dr Kieran Mullan MP) enthusiastic bid on behalf of Crewe," she told fellow MPs.

"When considering a property, three matters are important: location, location and location.

"Does he therefore agree that Crewe's geography makes it ideally suited to be the home of GBR?

"It is centrally located, with direct rail links not only to the south, the midlands and the north of England, but to Scotland and Wales."

Speaking further, Fiona said: "Of course, rail transport can take traffic off the motorways, notably the M6.

"I would be delighted to see the bid succeed because it would strengthen the case for reopening Middlewich railway station in my constituency of Congleton."
