Congleton MP Fiona Bruce confirms intention to stand in next General Election

Despite being over a-year-and-a-half away, politicians across the country are being asked about whether they are going to stand to be an MP.

And Congleton's MP, Fiona Bruce, looks set to stand for parliament in the next General Election.

MPs have to make a decision this month about whether they are stepping down in the next election., likely to be in 2024.

The Conservative who has represented Congleton in Westminster since 2010, has confirmed to Nub News her intentions.

Her vote shares at the last three elections have been 59% in 2019, 56.5% in 2017, and 53.3% in 2015. (Image - CC 3.0 Chris McAndrew bit.ly/3V0ft2x)

She said: "MPs have been asked to indicate if they will be stepping down at the next General Election and I have given no such indication."

Fiona Bruce is the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, which she was appointed to in December 2020.

She became a Member of Parliament for Congleton in May 2010. She has focused on championing individual freedoms and human rights, both in this country and abroad.

She served on the International Development Select Committee for four years and chaired the Parliamentary sub-committee overseeing the Independent Commission on Aid Inspections.

The next United Kingdom general election is scheduled to be held no later than January 2025. However, it is likely that it will follow recent elections by taking place in May or June. (Image - Nub News)

Her other positions include co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for North Korea and vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Freedom of Religion or Belief.
