A fundraiser has been launched to restore a habitat near a Congleton School.

Daven Primary School on New Street want to restore a woodland adjacent to their school field.

So they have launched a crowdfunder to help achieve it.

"During high winds earlier this year several trees fell and the site is no longer safe for use," said the school.

"The woodland floor and pathways have become overgrown and impossible to pass and without expert attention the area will be totally inaccessible.

"We have had a survey and need to remove the fallen trees, large saplings and undergrowth so that we can access the paths and create useable space for play.

"We will also buy new equipment (eg. a fire pit and shelter) to use during sessions.

"Once the woodland is restored regular outdoor learning sessions will be introduced. Sessions like these are proven to benefit mental wellbeing.

"The Children's Centre (which is on our school site) will also use it for community sessions. Restoring the site will improve our biodivesity.

"This is a great opportunity to teach future generations about the benefits our woodlands can provide."

£958 of the £2490 goal has been raised so far, on the Cheshire East Council-backed crowdfunding site Spacehive.

The council themselves have pledged £753 to the project.

It is part of £16,000 councillors have set aside for community projects in the past few weeks.
