Last Night at the Proms

Rotary-Congleton's Last Night at the Proms has two new guest performers this year!

The popular Rode Hall Silver Band led by its musical director Nigel Butler will return to perform its regular programme of traditional proms music as well as some new numbers.

Accomplished mezzo-soprano, Sarah Maxwell will perform from her own repertoire and lead the audience in the spirited and well-known chorus of 'Rule Britannia'. This year she will be accompanied by an equally famous recording pianist, Christopher Cromar.

Sarah who lives in Macclesfield, studied music at Chethams School in Manchester and at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In 1992 Christopher Cromar won a scholarship to Chetham's School of Music, studying the organ. He was a finalist in the 1995 and 1997 National Young Organist Competitions at Plymouth.

Christopher Cromar is the Musical Director of the Audley Male Voice Choir and until recently Director of Music at St. Andrew's Episcopal Cathedral in Aberdeen.

The popular Last Night at the Proms is on Saturday, 14th September at the New Life Church. The concert starts at 7.30pm and features Proms regulars, Rode Hall Silver Band

Tickets are £14 and can be obtained from the Congleton Information Centre at the Town Hall or by cash only from any Rotarian.

The friendly event allows the Prom-goers to bring their own refreshments and, of course, whilst union flags are available, extra decorations are also encouraged to add to the spirit of the event.

Rotary's Proms organiser, Rtn. Doug Parker is stepping down after this year's concert. Doug has organised the successful series of Rotary events at New Life Church since 2010
