Congleton: Latest Update in Tennis Club's Winter Doubles event

By Guest

22nd Jan 2022 | Local Sport

Every winter Congleton Lawn Tennis Club runs an internal doubles ladder from October until the end of March.

This gives members chance to play throughout the winter in a box league each month with three other pairs, with promotion and relegation each month dependent on the sets and games won by each pair.

At the end of the competition there are prizes for the leading pairs.

The 20/21 competition had to be cancelled due to COVID restrictions and the winter lockdown but the event is running in 21/22

At the half way point at the end of December, the leading mens pair and overall leaders are Danny Wilkins and John Cueppens, narrowly ahead of James Wetton and Mark Smith

The leading mixed pair are Angela Colins and Jim Worthington with Helen Dyson and Vikki Garner the leading ladies.

With three months still to go there is plenty of time for things to change in the race for the overall winners shield provided by Potteries Auctions Limited and the prizes sponsored by Porters Service Station (mens), the Edge Hair (ladies) and Fudged IT (mixed).

As always the club thanks all of its sponsors, and are always on the look-out for more commercial partners. You can call them on 07825 417550.

The first fun tournament of 2022 will take place on Saturday 26th February - this will be the Spring Fun Tournament and will be sponsored by The Tech Division - members can sign up now via the club website.
