Football: 10,000 capacity ground to host Congleton Town vs Macclesfield FC
The venue has been chosen for Macclesfield FC's upcoming match against Congleton Town FC.
While it was already confirmed that the match would take place in Cheshire, we now know Bears fans won't have to travel long.
The match will be held in Cheshire East, in what will be the biggest Cheshire derby in recent memory.
Crewe Alexandra's ground will welcome the North West Counties Football League Premier Division sides on March 26.
Congleton fans will make a 12 mile trip to the Football League ground, while Macclesfield have an extra eight miles to travel to get there.
Gresty Road - currently known as Mornflake Stadium for sponsorship reasons - is the home of the League One side.
It is not quite the home field advantage Congleton fans wanted, as safety fears have prevented Congleton hosting the return fixture of the August Bank Holiday derby.
Clashes between spectators marred the previous meeting between Congleton Town and The Silkmen, and led seven being arrested.
Macclesfield FC Director of Football Robbie Savage and Owner Rob Smethurst had to intervene to allow play to continue, and was featured in last year's Macclesfield FC TV documentary.
Macclesfield won August's tie 1-0, and are hot favourites for another victory, being top of the league.
But a potentially-record amount of Congleton fans could show up to turn the tides in the favour of our town's football club.
The capacity of Crewe's ground is 10,153, but it is not yet known if all seats are up for sale. The two sides spectators will be segregated.
Congleton Town FC said in a statement: "Tickets are now available for our upcoming game vs Macclesfield FC.
"Adults are £10, U12s £5. Buy yours now."
Macclesfield FC released the following statement regarding the 3pm kick off on March 26.
"Further to the announcement that our NWCFL Premier Division fixture against Congleton Town will be played at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday 26 March, tickets for the game are now on sale.
"Silkmen fans will be situated within the South Stand and tickets can be claimed either via the link below or through Crewe Alexandra's Ticket Office on 01270 252610.
"Supporters are reminded that full segregation will be in place and that no alcohol will be permitted inside the Stadium.
