A Congleton sports club have raised hundreds of pounds for a school thousands of miles away.
On Wednesday March 9 Nick Wilkins from the Congleton Lawn Tennis Club presented Lucy Wachira-Worth with a cheque donation from the North East Cheshire League Charity Fund.
This fundraising cheque was towards Gathehu Secondary school in Kenya in memory of her late son Ian.
This will go towards the ongoing building project of the administration block which will also house the computer laboratory in the African developing country.
This donation was added to £640 raised on September 8 last year, (2021) when Nick organised a club social tennis event towards the school in memory of Ian
The Congleton Harriers of which Ian was a member off previously, before moving to London held a running event on October 31 last year (2021) and raised £310 towards the school.
The involvement with Congleton and Gathehu Secondary School begun in 2009 when Lucy and her husband donated our wedding monetary presents towards the construction of this school which previously was non existent-it has over 120 pupils and 10 teachers now.
They also held various fund raising events of which her late son participated in.
The school was opened in February 2011 and has been running for over ten years.
The latest investment thanks to our town's generosity will help to modernise the school.
Gathehu is a settlement in Kenya's Central Province. It is 21 miles away from Mount Kenya, which is Africa's second largest mountain.

Gathehu Secondary School is a great asset to Gathehu village, offering education, employment and community involvement in fundraising activities which also bring the community together.
A total of £3500 donation in memory of Lucy's son (Ian) and husband (Shaun) has been raised for the school between July 2021 and March 2022 which will go towards, plumbing, electrical piping and the plastering of the administration block.
