What a great day at Congleton LTC on Sunday (1st August).

There was a fantastic buzz about the place as thirty-two players took to the courts in our 'first ever' Vice Presidents Tournament.

Many more came along not only to watch the tennis but to join in a celebration of the fantastic contribution made to the club by our previous chairman and now Vice President John Doe and his late wife Marion.

Linda Simpson, Clive Young and John Hoffman of Cheshire LTA were also in attendance to present a lifetime achievement award to John and Marion.

There was a lovely afternoon tea provided by Lindsay Newton and her band of helpers, and June Bowyer and Jane Tyler spoke fondly about their memories of the years of service given to the club by John and Marion.

John's predecessor as chairman Alex Burton was also in attendance and spoke of how Marion kept him in order as club secretary for many years.

Current chairman Rob McNinch and secretary Lindsay Newton presented a tankard and photo album full of memories to John, and the club unveiled a large photo of Marion which will hang in the clubhouse.

John also rang the official club bell purchased in memory of Marion to start the tournament.

Rob thanked all those who made the afternoon such a great success as well as tournament sponsors Spall Clark Solicitors.

The tournament was won by David King and Helen Dyson with runners up Kev Graham and Bob Edmunds.

Thanks to everyone who attended - a truly great day.
