Tennis is back.

Congleton Lawn Tennis Club kicked off their summer season on Sunday (April 6).

It began with the first social tournament of the year, the Chairs Trophy, sponsored by Hannah's Creations.

Four rounds of eight games were played to determine who would face off in the final, which saw Venus Moses and Sam Maxwell come up against Louise Fenn and Fletcher Moseley.

The final was well fought, and despite an impressive tournament debut from junior Fletcher, Sam and Venus ran out 12-10 winners in the tiebreak.

A spokesperson for CLTC said: "With five juniors taking part, it was great to see some really good tennis being played during the afternoon.

"Thanks go out to all of the players, Andrew Giltrap for organising the day, chair Rob McNinch for running the event on the day, DJ Mandy Craker for spinning the decks, Gill White for providing liquid refreshments and of course our sponsor, Hannah's Creations for some delicious looking tennis themed cupcakes given out as the first prizes."

To celebrate the start of the summer season, CLTC is inviting the public to come and give the sport a go, free of charge.

Teams and competitions lead Andrew Giltrap said: "We wanted to showcase the club and remind the residents of Congleton what a great facility we have in the town.

"Tennis is suitable for everyone - we offer tennis for all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players and tiny tots to over 80s."

Any adults or children aged five to 12 who are not currently members are invited to take part in a free coaching session at the club, based off West Street Car Park.
