Grassroots football in Congleton has netted a financial pledge from a local property development.

Bloor Homes North West, which is building new homes at Hudson Meadows in Congleton and a development coming soon called Thorsten Fields off Viking Way, were the donors to a Congleton football team.

The housebuilders pledged £1000 to buy the kits for two girls' teams in the U9s through to the U13s at Congleton Town FC.

Wendy Curry, football coordinator for the Congleton girls' teams, said: "We're so pleased to receive this donation from Bloor, which means that 32 girls in the area get a smart new kit to play in.

"Football has played a huge role in helping these girls develop socially and make friends outside of school, as well as helping them grow in confidence.

"In fact, many of them make friends with others in the team and then as they get older, find they are going to Congleton High School together. That plays a key part in helping them feel settled in secondary school quicker, with girls they already have a close bond with."

Lucy McCabe, Sales Director for Bloor Homes North West, said: "It's always a pleasure to sponsor youth sports teams, as we know they play a big part in so many local children's lives.

"We pride ourselves on the support we offer to the communities in which we build, and we try to help wherever we can.

"We were really pleased to be able to support the young football team by donating money for new kits. We hope that they bring them lots of luck in their upcoming games."

It is not the first Congleton development by the Leicestershire company.

Bloor Homes currently have homes for sale at Hudson Meadows on Buxton Road, near Buglawton.
