New Congleton women's social group has over 100 members
A Congleton organisation for women to make new friends, has elapsed the 100 member milestone.
HerSpace, founded by Congleton resident and teacher Charlotte Bell, is a social group for adult women young or old to meet new like-minded pals.
Charlotte moved to Congleton in 2016, without knowing anyone, a feeling which was further exasperated by having children, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
So she decided to start a social group, which has now become a booming business.
They have over 140 paid members, who enjoy leisure and social events together across the Congleton area.
"HerSpace is a membership service which collaborates with local businesses to provide women of all ages access to a variety of affordable and fun events each month," said Charlotte.
"Previous events have included chocolate making, cocktail tasting, canoeing, walks, rounders, mindfulness workshops, crafting, meals out to name a few."
The idea is to get out in the local area, try new things and just have some fun within a supportive and welcoming community of over 140 like-minded ladies.
"We understand that lockdown has left many of us feeling lonely," added Charlotte.
"Which is why our aim is to try and connect women and help create new friendships.
"There are also a book club and competitions to get involved with.
"We are looking to start becoming involved in local community projects.
HerSpace was founded in July 2021 and currently benefits ladies in Congleton, Holmes Chapel and surrounding local towns.
"We have collaborated with local establishments such as Cocktails on the Corner, Higher Ground Café Bar, The Young Pretender, The Old Saw Mill and The Wonky Pear to name a few," added Charlotte.
"The beauty of HerSpace is that we introduce members to new places and thus help support local business.
"We are trialling a 'try before you join' scheme for June events, so people can experience an event before committing to membership.
"We decided to run it as we feel very confident that once ladies come to the events they will like it so much that they will end up joining!"
"I came up with HerSpace on the kitchen table during lockdown, hoped that I get ten friends to join, and have gone to strength-to-strength from there.
"We have over 1.4k followers on social media which I feel is testament to the amount it is not only needed, but is helping our members. I'm getting messages from other towns asking when HerSpace is going to launch there.
"Everyone who comes to the meetings is so friendly, there is a great sense of community here [in Congleton], and it takes groups like these to unlock that."
Other than herself, Charlotte's venture employs event co-ordinators Jenn Thornley and Abbie Mountford
The Congleton service, which will also launch in Macclesfield from September, costs women just £6 a month.
