What Boris Johnson's latest announcement means for local people

Boris Johnson has today made an announcement that signals more easing of the lockdown measures.

Of course, people in Congleton and indeed the whole UK have had to make radical changes to their lives since the pandemic began in March.

The town's buses may well be seeing an increase in usage as the official advice on using public transport has changed.

Previously trains and buses were meant to be for essential journeys only, however from Friday this ruling is to be scrapped, opening up the network once more.

Face coverings will still be mandatory on public transport however, and must also be worn in shops from July 24th, as was announced in a previous statement.

More people in the town may also soon be returning to the office, with the work from home guidance also being scrapped on August 1st.

Also from August 1st, the PM has said that most remaining leisure facilities, such as bowling alleys, skating rinks and casinos, and close-contact services such as beauticians could resume.

However, soft play areas and nightclubs will remain closed beyond that date.

Sports stadiums and conferences may be reopened in October as well, providing there are no large outbreaks.

This means that people may finally be able to return to cheering on the Bears or the Potters after months away from stadiums.

The Prime Minister hopes that we will have returned to 'significant normality' by Christmas.
