The Tour of Britain sped through Congleton last Thursday.

Roads were shut and convoys were in place as spectators gathered the streets of Congleton to catch a peek at Mark Cavendish and tens of other famous riders.

The Stage Five of the UK-wide cycle race whizzed through Astbury, went through Astbury Golf Club, and then sandwiched between High Town and Possley down Congleton's Leek Road.

The bikers then when through Timberbrook, Toft Green and edged North Road before leaving the Congleton area via Bosley.

The Crewe Photo Society kindly submitted these photos at the Astbury leg to Congleton Nub News.

The athletes started the day in Alderley Park, and finished in Warrington.

British rider Ethan Hayter won the stage, but the Londoner did not win the Tour of Britain overall.

Belgian Wout Van Aert bagged the title from the Englishman on the final day.

The Tour of Britain will return to Cheshire next year, with Congleton once more a likely route.
