UPDATE: Three women taken to North Staffordshire Hospital with serious injuries following collision in Astbury

Three women have been seriously injured in a collision on the A34 this morning which involved a HGV and a car.

Shortly before 2.30am today (Thursday 25 June), emergency services were called to a serious collision at the junction of Dodds Lane, Astbury.

Three fire engines attended, one from Congleton, Winsford and Alsager.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: "Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to release three casualties who were trapped in the car, they were passed to the care of the paramedics."

Three women have been taken to North Staffordshire Hospital with serious injuries.

The A34 Newcastle Road junction with Peel lane is closed.

A road closure is in place between West Road, Congleton, and the A34 Scholar Green.

Diversions are in place but drivers are advised to avoid the area.

A Cheshire East Highways spokesperson said: "The road is expected to be closed for a number of hours through out the day while investigations and recovery work takes place."
