Ukrainians will be able to celebrate Christmas their way in an authentic evening at Congleton Town Hall.

This is according to Congleton Mayor Margaret Gartside, who was speaking at the Congleton Area Ukraine Support Network Independence Day event earlier this week, which raised £2000 for English lessons.

"We would like the opportunity for Ukrainian families of Congleton to have a Ukrainian Christmas celebration to come to the down hall and celebrate Christmas in a Ukrainian way rather than a British way," she said.

"The date to be confirmed but everyone in the town will be welcome, so please come and join us."

While also a Christian country, Ukraine follows the Orthodox Church, and as a result, celebrate the Festive season differently.

Traditional Ukrainian Christmas festivities start on Christmas Eve, which is celebrated in the Eastern European nation on 6 January, according to the Julian calendar. Festivities continue will into January, before concluding on January 19.

While the Congleton Christmas celebration won't last 13 days, it is presumed that the High Street event will take place in this period, which falls in a period where the town can be quite quiet after many British Christmas celebrators tend to stay at home during the early weeks of January.

Cllr Margaret Gartside was appointed Congleton's Mayor in May 2022.

Her revelations as not the only good news to come from the Congleton Area Ukraine Support Network fundraising dinner on Wednesday August 24, as you can see by clicking here.

Congleton Nub News will confirm the date of the Ukrainian take on Yuletide when it is first known.
