The first impact of Christmas mixing in Congleton has been revealed, as the first coronavirus stats for 2022 are ready.

As the incubation period for COVID-19 is five days, we can start to see how cases have gone up as family and friends met up for Christmastime.

The latest figures, come from the seven days leading up to January 2. (Boxing Day to Wednesday Jan 2)

Every area inside and directly outside of Congleton has cases in the triple figures, but deaths remain low.

Listed in Alphabetical Order Buglawton recorded 108 cases (up 31) Cranage & Goostrey recorded 131 cases (up 23) Congleton Town recorded 140 cases (up 40) Congleton West Heath recorded 113 cases (up 31) Hightown, Mossley & Timbersbrook recorded 117 cases (up 48) It is not known how many of the positive tests are the Omicron variant. There are 253 cases in Congleton Town and West Heath combined. As of January 6 2022, 87.2% of Congleton Town residents eligible have had a 1st dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

While data protection reasons can't tell us how many people died in Canal Road's Congleton War Memorial Hospital, four people with coronavirus went into hospital across East Cheshire NHS Trust on 2 January 2022. Between 27 December 2021 and 2 January 2022, 31 went into hospital with coronavirus. This shows an increase of 40.9% compared to the previous seven days across Cheshire East's three hospitals. There were 41 patients in hospital with coronavirus on 4 January 2022. Some people in the hospital need to use a special device called a mechanical ventilator to help them breathe. There was one coronavirus patient in hospital beds with a mechanical ventilator on 4 January 2022. Sadly, there were 3 deaths within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus reported on 7 January 2022. Between 1 January 2022 and 7 January 2022, there have been 11 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test. This shows an increase of 120.0% compared to the previous seven days.
