A Congleton High School teaching assistant is raising money for life-saving PPE equipment by climbing the equivalent height of Mount Everest using her own stairs.

Eloise Dale is looking to complete the challenge, which consists of walking 2,302 flights of stairs across five days.

Miss Dale will start the challenge, which is the equivalent to height of Mount Everest (8,448 metres) on Monday 11th May and is targeting 490 stair climbs, which doesn't include coming back down the stairs with breaks each day.

The 20-year-old told Congleton Nub News: "For the last week I have been doing 200 stair climbs a day to get myself ready and trained for the challenge.

"I've tried to persuade my friends to join in, but I haven't got very far with the convincing so far."

Miss Dale, who has previously participated in fundraising walks following the Manchester Bombing (from Congleton to Manchester Children's Hospital) and the Bosley Mill Explosion (from Congleton to Macclesfield), felt that she couldn't sit back and not contribute during the coronavirus pandemic.

She added: "I'm raising money for our amazing NHS and key workers. They are putting themselves at risk every second of every minute of everyday to look after us all.

"In these uncertain times it is important that everyone pulls together and supports each other."

All money donated will be spilt between the Macclesfield and Congleton hospital's and Congleton High School's continued fundraising scheme, which is making PPE equipment.

When asked how Miss Dale was going to tackle the challenge, she concluded: "If I can manage to do significantly more than the 490 stair climbs over the first two days, it will give me a chance to get ahead and get as much as done as early as possible."

At the time of publishing, Eloise had raised £75 out of her £100 target.

You can donate to her challenge through her Just Giving page.
