A small fire involving an oven was the reason why a smoke alarm was activated at a Congleton property.

Shortly after 11:30pm last night (Sunday), firefighters were notified of a smoke alarm having been activated at an occupied domestic property in Swaledale Avenue, Congleton.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival the crew discovered that smoke from a small fire involving an oven had activated the alarm.

"Firefighters ensured that the fire was out and the kitchen was safe."

Firefighters also ventilated the property and an occupier was assessed by paramedics.

One fire engine from Congleton attended and they were in attendance for around 40 minutes.
