Seven good causes in Congleton have received a share of thousands of pounds from Cheshire's Police Commissioner.

They each share a small portion of the £90,000 Cheshire's top cop has given across the county, through money seized from criminals.

The Congleton charities and community organisations PCC John Dwyer and a panel have elected to give to are:

Cheshire Search & Rescue - A countywide charity who hope to deliver water safety equipment and training sessions for volunteers in Congleton.

Age UK Cheshire East - Who seek to deliver fraud awareness events for Congletonians.

Congleton Youth Forum - Who'll provide activities to engage young people aged 11-25 in their community and divert them away from anti-social behaviour.

Congleton Education Community Partnership - Have plans to prepare youngsters in our increasingly digital world. They're a collaborative meet-up of local schools, who meet at Black Firs Primary School on Longdown Road, who will use the policing grant to teach education in primary schools to enable children to stay safe online.

Congleton Town Council - Will aim to expand local Neighbourhood Watch schemes with the money.

My CWA - Cheshire Without Abuse are going to offer improved local support for survivors of domestic abuse with the cash.

Cheshire Constabulary - Community crime prevention advice and initiatives for elderly and vulnerable people across Congleton.

While it may seem strange that one of the chosen causes was the Police itself, all chosen projects had to be tangentially related to one of the Police Commissioner's policing priorities.

This meant many of the tens of causes that applied could not be chosen.

Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, said: "I would like to thank every single applicant for putting their project forward to the Community Cashback Fund, I am delighted that there was so much interest and the decision process wasn't easy.

"The principle of the Community Cashback Fund is that money is spent by the community, for the community, in the community and it has been great to hear about all of the brilliant ideas residents have to shape their neighbourhood into an even safer and more positive area."
