Online rumours suggesting Screwfix will open in Congleton are true.

The UK's largest retailer of trade tools have confirmed their interest in a statement to Congleton Nub News.

"We are delighted to bring Screwfix closer to even more customers and look forward to welcoming busy tradespeople to our new store in Congleton later this year," a spokesperson said.

"As we continue to grow our store network we will announce details about each new store, including planned dates for opening, in due course.

"Customers can find the up-to-date store information on Screwfix.com."

The site of the new store remains unknown.

Screwfix would not respond to social media claims that they will occupy the former Congleton town centre Aldi building, which has been vacant for almost six months on Mountbatten Way, CW12 1DL, and will be split into three separate retail units.

There are also unverified reports that independent Congleton hardware shops Threadfast Engineers of Royle Street and Handy Cabin of Mill Street will be moving into the old Aldi building.

Congleton Nub News will continue to investigated and to reveal the new location of the Screwfix store.

The closest Screwfix to Congleton is seven miles away in Holmes Chapel.

The second nearest Screwfix to Congleton is on Hulley Road in Macclesfield.

The Hulley Road store, ten miles away from our town, created 13 new jobs when it opened in 2014.

A similar number shall be expected for the Congleton store, when it opens sometime in 2022.
