A popular dog show has been cancelled with temperatures set to soar.

The local RSPCA branch has confirmed that this weekend's Bark in the Park dog show at Congleton Park has been cancelled.

This decision comes with temperatures expected to reach into the high 20s.

A statement released by the RSPCA on Thursday morning, July 9, reads: "It is with great disappointment that we have made the difficult decision to cancel this Saturday's (July 11) Bark in the Park dog show due to the forecast of continued extreme temperatures.

"The welfare of the dogs, visitors, volunteers and exhibitors must always come first, and we don't feel it would be safe to go ahead in the expected conditions.

"We know many of you were looking forward to the event, and we're incredibly sorry for any disappointment this causes.

"We are already looking at the possibility of arranging another date later in the year and will keep everyone updated.

"Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We hope to see you all at a future event soon."
