Police investigating as birds and rabbits shot at beauty spot

Police are stepping up patrols at a local beauty spot.

Officers are investigating reports of wildlife crime at at Astbury Mere over the weekend.

It is understood that around two dozen birds and rabbits have been shot at with an air rifle.

PC Rob Stordy said: "We have been made aware of an incident that is alleged to have occurred at Astbury Mere between March 28 and 31.

"It's understood that around 25 birds and rabbits may have been shot with an air rifle.

"If you have any information in relation to this incident we would ask you contact us using the reference 25000262851.

"Rural Crime Team Officers will be at the location today (April 2) establishing full details and will also look to increase our patrols at the site over this weekend."
